Alice
I directed this staging of Alice, a full-scale musical, premiering in Prudence Lewty Hall in a modest, yet sell-out season of three performances. Meticulous production management by Fiona Cheney enabled the seamless management of a brilliant cast of 52 performers, plus orchestra. This adaptation is loosely based on the famous ‘Alice’ stories by Lewis Carroll. We witness the plucky Alice accidentally stumbling her way into a bewildering plot, as she follows the White Rabbit from a seat in the audience. Harnessing the potential of our newly acquired green screen, the dynamic genuis Michelle Dennis captured our Cheshire Cat, played smugly by comic buffoon Megan Shellie, and projected him unexpected intervals across the walls of the venue. The Lighting Design by Bron Pringle interplayed impressively with the ingenious Set by Jeminah Reidy. Bella Drinkwater’s incredible eye for detail was showcased in her astonishing costume designs, through which the cast utterly embodied the ridiculous array of creature and characters this classic narrative called for.
