small metal objects
What an outrageous honour to have come onboard with Back to Back Theatre as their Education Liaison in 2023, for the much anticipated remount of ‘small metal objects’. I have been utterly mesmerised by the work of this company since volunteering as an usher for ‘Soft’ as part of Melbourne Festival in the early 2000’s. As ‘smo’ was listed by VCAA on the Drama playlist for 2023, countless students and teachers were engaged with studying this incredible, group-devised, immersive piece of hyper-realism, set in a non-traditional performance spaces. Click on the images below to peruse the two final education resources I created alongside the awesome team at B2B. Also, check out the digital footage of a post-show interview with the creatives available here.
*UPDATE- I am absolutely blown away to have been honoured by Drama Victoria as the recipient of their 2023 Award for Best New Australian Publication for Drama and Theatre Studies for these two VCE Education Packs.
Here are some lovely things that the beautiful human, Nikki Watson, Community and Education Producer at Back to Back, has said of our time working together:
‘When Back to Back Theatre was successful in their application for the VCAA playlist, we needed a steward that would embrace the ethos of the company and help us to create a resource pack for students that was a true representation of the work we do. This was completely new territory for the company, typically Claire’s ear was to the ground, and the moons aligned. We met an experienced and passionate educator that drills down on the detail, keeping our company and the student interface at the forefront of the task.
Claire’s greatest strengths are making connections, joining the dots with students, teachers or artists, thinking outside of the box and creating work that truly speaks on behalf of the company. We have since called on Claire’s expertise for other education projects. Oh yeah, Claire is also really good at correcting my grammatical errors and writing a sentence much better than I ever could. For that I thank you Claire..!’
